On January 24, the largest builder’s association in the United States gathered to hear Shannon Carter, President and Founder of Cartis Group, speak about the importance of building strong and profitable brands in real estate.
Mr. Carter is a 21-year veteran of the advertising business and founded Cartis Group in 1992 (as mc2 Creative) to provide premium design and branding services to premiere clients such as Whole Foods Market, USAA, Wayport and New York Life. An active industry leader, Shannon frequently speaks at industry events, judges several advertising and design competitions per year, and was named “Ad Man of the Year” by the Austin Advertising Federation in 2005.
His speech was based on his paper “What is a Brand and Why Should We Care?” where Carter addresses the importance of reaching a unified goal as a company, and then defining it to position the brand in the marketplace.
“Branding is more about corporate strategy than marketing or design,” Carter said. “If you look at some of the best known brands, they are a united organization that has everyone moving in the same direction.”
Several people were very moved by Carter’s speech and asked him for a follow-up presentation on the lecture, including Linda Henson. She is a project manager for the MarSell Group, which is a marketing and advertising firm that directs its efforts towards homebuilders and manufacturers in Houston. Henson says that she was attending the conference to gain insight about how to improve in her business. “I really enjoyed the speech,” Henson said. “Shannon explained what a brand is and why it is important, and broke it down to very understandable terms.”
